A Note From AmyO:
Howdy! Thank you for stopping by. Here's a few things you might want to know before diving in to our weekly (well, okay, almost weekly) rants.
History
AmyAndHolly.com began in the year 2000 after I built a simple three page website for a intro to computers class in college. I had so much fun that I bought a domain name, signed up for hosting, and hand coded a few rough but functional pages. The intention was to serve as an electronic newsletter for friends and family scattered across the country. Editing the HTML code each time I wanted to update information became too time consuming for me, and I became quite the slacker about updating the site.
Then I bought Adobe GoLive 5, and redesigned the site, added a few pages, and even started creating photo albums with Photoshop (although I hated the way they looked - too clunky). I made a couple of revisions, but again, for my limited web design experience, I still found myself with less time than I would have liked to update the site.
Version 3.0
So one fine autumn day in early October of 2002, the November issue of MacAddict landed in my mailbox. One of the headlines claimed I, too, could run my own "weblog." Well, I didn't relish leaving my new G4 on 24-7, but the article did spur me on to checking out the new trend of "blogging" and a great tool called pMachine, which allows anyone to have their own weblog site with little effort. I was in the middle of an editing project at the time, so I couldn't devote my full attention to it (even though I did sneak short sessions in to clear my head during long editing stretches). But, I finally switched webhosts, uploaded pMachine, and started learning how to change the code so it would look the way I wanted (no offense to pMachine creator, Rick Ellis!)
Version 4.0
18 months into the dark and techno-licious look of Version 3.0, I decided the place needed a "sprucing up." So, I dusted off my coding books and dove into a redesign. A minty-fresh redesign at that! I have to say, it's a much cheerier (is that a word?) look. If you missed the previous version, a links disabled static page in the old style can be found here if you wish to take a look.
How to interact with us via this site
Anyone can comment on an entry. You do not have to be registered, but you will need to leave a working email address in the appropriate field. That way, we can respond personally to any comments as the need arises. We will not give your information to ANYONE outside of this website. If you want to send a private message, click on the "Send us a message" link and you'll be taken to a form that you can fill out and will forward your message to our email account.
If you want to know when major site updates occur (I plan on adding to the photo gallery on a semi-regular basis among other things), enter your address in the box at left and you'll be kept in the loop.
Thanks again for stopping by. I hope you like what you see and come back again soon!
